How to choose an Adjustable Standing Desk

Adjustable Standing Desks are now appearing in more offices and workplaces across Australia, but there is a good reason for it. There is a wide range of manufacturers, including in-store and online retailers, selling this type of desk – all of which can make it confusing when trying to find the right one.

If you need assistance with correct ergonomics, Back Centre offers on-site Ergonomic Workstation Assessments to identify issues and tailor solutions to each individual.

To make the decision process much easier, we’ve narrowed down what to look for when buying an adjustable standing desk:

Finding the right standing desk for you

Finding the right sitting and standing desk can be a little tricky. Those who happen to multitask or require more space for paperwork and storage would opt for a Corner Standing Desk. Back Centre offers multiple shapes and sizes to suit your office environment. The Back To Back Standing Desk is designed for large office environments in mind. Creating two workstations with the ability to separate the desks from each other with a partition screen.

To find out if the standing desk is right for you, follow these steps:

  1. Sit with your feet comfortably on the floor, hips slightly higher than knees and with relaxed shoulders. With a tape measure, align it from the floor to the underside of your bent elbow. This is your approximate sitting height.
  2. Stand with relaxed shoulders and measure from the floor to the underside of your bent elbow. This is your approximate standing height.

When purchasing a standing desk, ensure the height range of the desk suits your sitting and standing measurements. Unfortunately, some cheaper standing desks do not go low enough for shorter people, and others don’t raise enough for those who are very tall. Back Centre’s adjustable standing desk include models that can be lowered to 575mm and raised to 1275mm.

The benefits of an electric standing desk is that they are adjustable both in height and size. The starting range is 1200-2000mm wide and opting for a 750mm to 800mm depth is allowing enough space to ensure the monitor is a comfortable distance for your eyes.

What weight range do I require?

Back Centre offers three different weight varieties:

Before deciding on an electric standing desk, make sure you know how much weight will be put on the desk to determine the type of motor that will be best suited.

If you’re looking for a more portable version, that’s where a Sit Stand Workstation can be handy. A Sit Stand Workstation is easy to assemble and can be placed on your existing desk.
